What to do during your stay at Alam
Sari Hotel Bali
At alam sari it is our business to make your holiday what
you want it to be. The information that follows may help
you plan some activities during your stay as well as enjoy
all the good things alam sari and Bali offers you.
From the location
of Keliki on the map you can see we are in the centre
of the island with many of Bali's main attractions less
than an hour away. However long your stay with us, we
can assure you that besides just relaxing in the peaceful
environment we offer, there are many other activities
for you to do.
Here
are just a few suggestions: The village of Keliki, which
we are a part of, is a typical rural Balinese village.
Its people are friendly and by walking around the village
you will soon experience the colour, serenity and beauty
of everyday Balinese life in its unspoiled rural setting.
Many of our staff live in the village or nearby and
would be happy to escort you or arrange a guide from
the village. Keliki is renowned for its fine miniature
paintings and wooden carving of fruits and flowers.
In the village you can visit the artists homes and studios.
In our lobby area look out for regular displays and
demonstrations of the various painting, carving, weaving
and other crafts practised in Bali. Items for sale are
of good quality and the prices are fixed-no bargaining
required!
Half and full-day walks and climbs in some of the breathtakingly
beautiful scenery of the interior of the island can
be arranged from alam sari. The volcanic crater of Mount
Batur can be reached in a day and the walk to Ubud takes
half a day. You can hire a mountain bike from us and
use it to explore the lanes and hidden paths that are
found everywhere. We have maps and guides to assist
you if needed and can provide packed lunches for such
trips.
The nearby Ayung River, about 20 minutes drive from
Alam Sari, provides the excitement of white-water rafting
for those seeking a little more adventure. Each day
rafts plunge down the river taking you on the experience
of a lifetime yet in complete safety. Bookings and transport
can be arranged at the Reception desk.
For sea lovers, good beaches for surfing and swimming
are an hour away. Sailing trips can also be arranged
to some of Bali's offshore islands. For scuba divers
and snorkelers some of the most beautiful underwater
life you will ever see is within easy reach. We can
arrange for experienced instructors who will handle
all the arrangements for such diving trips and you can
even learn to scuba dive and be certificated during
your stay.
Bali is full of villages, temples, holy places and
a host of other attractions of cultural and historic
interest. All are set in a landscape that no postcard
can fully capture. Dozens of interesting places can
be visited. We are happy to give any advice we can that
will assist in your exploring and can arrange the use
of experienced tour guides and drivers to allow you
to experience the cultural heritage and sheer natural
beauty of the 'island of the gods'.
Besides everything else, Bali is a shoppers' paradise.
Whether shopping in Kuta or Sanur for clothing, shoes,
leather goods, bags, music tapes and souvenirs or in
the villages that specialise in silver and gold jewellery,
weaving, woodcarving, painting, furniture and antiques,
you'll be amazed at the quality and quantity available
and pleasantly surprised at the prices. Most shopping
locations are within an hour's drive from alam sari
and we are happy to advise you of the best locations
to buy.
No
visit to Bali is complete without witnessing a traditional
Balinese temple festival. The colour, music, decorations,
ritual and ceremony are an unforgettable experience.
We will try to locate a nearby festival and make the
necessary arrangements for you to visit it.
For golfers, two world class 18 hole courses are just
over an hour's drive away. One is a seaside course at
Nusa Dua in the south of the island and the other, Bali
Handara, is located inside the rim of an extinct volcano
to the north. Both courses welcome visitors and we can
make advance bookings for you.
For runners, a local group of Hash House Harriers runs
regularly nearby. Otherwise the lanes and paths all
around us provide some of the most beautiful scenery
to run in you're likely to experience anywhere. Indonesia's
national sports are soccer and badminton. The local
villiagers would welcome you to join them to play.
For musicians, dancers, gastronomes and linguists,
local villagers would be happy to teach you how to play
in the Balinese gamelan, learn a Balinese dance, prepare
Balinese food and learn the rudiments of the Balinese
language. If you would like to participate in any of
these activities we can make the necessary arrangements.
So from seeing the sun rise over Gunung Agung, Bali's
holy mountain, from your porch at dawn to watching the
return at sunset of the beautiful white herons to their
roosts in nearby Petulu village, your days can be filled
with a variety of wonderful experiences.
And what of the evenings? Nights in our part of Bali
are quiet and relaxed. We don't
offer a nightclub, disco or pop music. Instead, every
night of the week there are cultural performances of
Balinese dance, drama or puppetry in Ubud and its surrounding
villages - all less than 30 minutes away from alam sari.
On any night of the week enjoy a cool drink at the bar,
poolside or in your room before enjoying the food and
decor in our restaurant while listening to the gentle
music of Bali playing in the background. And last but
not least, to end your day we guarantee you a cool,
quiet and comfortable night's rest every night you are
with us.
And if all this activity sounds a little too strenuous,
then remember to spend some time relaxing by our pool,
admiring the view and relaxing. There is no better place
to do it than in this beautiful corner of the world
that we call home.
